How SociaVault Built Reliable Social Media Data Infrastructure to Stay Ahead
I'm the founder of Ziddec, Inc., and I built SociaVault after getting tired of maintaining broken scrapers for client projects. Previously ran webscrapingwithola.com, teaching web scraping.

How SociaVault got started
I was working on a client project that needed TikTok data, creator profiles, engagement stats, trending content. Every solution I found was either charging $500+/month, rate-limited to 50 requests a day, or breaking every other week when TikTok changed something. I ended up building and maintaining my own scrapers, dealing with proxies, captchas, fingerprinting, the whole mess. I'd get things working, and then two weeks later TikTok would push an update and everything would break again. I'd spend entire weekends just patching scripts instead of doing actual work.
Then I needed Instagram data for another project and realized I was about to go through the exact same cycle again, research the platform, build scrapers, deal with anti-bot systems, and pray it holds together for more than a month. That's when it hit me, I keep solving the same problem over and over. So I sat down and built one unified API that handles all the ugly parts - proxy rotation, anti-bot bypasses, data normalization - across 20+ platforms. What started as me not wanting to fix my own broken scripts for the fifth time turned into SociaVault.
Growing SociaVault: what worked and what didn't
Worked, Publishing original research. We used our own API to analyze 100,000 TikTok and Instagram accounts, flagged fake followers, and published the results as a free report, the Fake Follower Study 2026. It got picked up organically, brought in backlinks, and positioned us as a data authority rather than just another API. People who read the study signed up because they trusted we actually understood the data. It also gave us a real reason to reach out to journalists and marketing blogs; we had actual numbers to share, not just a product pitch. That single report drove more signups than any campaign we'd run before it.
Flopped, I prepped a whole cold email campaign early on, bought three secondary domains, set up warmup sequences, personalized every email with AI, the works. Spent about $225 on the infrastructure and probably 20 hours setting it all up. The conversion was terrible. Developers and data teams don't want to be sold to via cold email. They want to find you through docs, blog posts, and AI answers. Every dollar I put into content and SEO outperformed the email outreach by a mile.
What SociaVault customers really think
The number one thing is specific platform quirks. We support 20+ platforms and each one behaves differently. For example, TikTok's keyword search doesn't handle long multi-word phrases the way Twitter or Reddit does. Customers send queries like "Globe internet Philippines" and get empty results. It's not our bug; it's how TikTok's search algorithm works under the hood, but it still ends up in our inbox.
Another common one is response size. Some endpoints return massive JSON payloads with nested objects, and customers just want the key fields. So we did two things. First, we started writing endpoint-specific documentation with tips for each platform, what query formats work, which parameters actually matter, common gotchas, and example requests that show best practices. Second, we added a trim parameter across all endpoints so customers can get cleaner, smaller responses instead of the full raw payloads.
Most complaints come down to people not realizing each platform has its own behavior and limitations, so investing heavily in better docs and per-platform guides solved the majority of it.

What most people get wrong about Social Commerce Platforms
People think the hard part of social media data is getting access to it. It's not. The hard part is keeping access reliable. Any decent developer can write a scraper that works today. The real challenge is maintaining it when platforms push anti-bot updates every week, rotate their API signatures, change their HTML structure at 2 a.m., or start fingerprinting your requests in new ways. That's why most in-house scraping setups break constantly; teams spend more time fixing broken scripts than actually using the data. I've seen companies with two or three engineers dedicated full-time just to keeping their scrapers alive.
The other thing people get wrong is thinking official APIs solve this. Most official social media APIs are heavily restricted; they limit what data you can access, throttle your request volume, and require approval processes that take weeks or months. The real value in this market isn't in the data extraction itself; it's in the infrastructure and ongoing maintenance that keeps it working 99.9% of the time without the customer having to think about it.
What's next for SociaVault
The big one is SV-Score. It's a universal influencer authenticity score from 0 to 100, like a credit score for social media accounts. We've already tested it across 100,000 accounts with 92% accuracy. The goal is to make it the industry standard metric for influencer vetting, so agencies and brands can instantly tell if an account has real engagement or inflated numbers.
Beyond that, we're shipping webhook support for real-time monitoring, batch processing so customers can upload CSVs of thousands of profiles at once, and Zapier and Make.com integrations so non-technical marketing teams can plug our data directly into their existing workflows without writing any code.
SociaVault traction so far
2,000,000+ API requests processed across 20+ social platforms and growing every month.
Olamide's background
I spent years doing web scraping as a freelancer and running webscrapingwithola.com where I taught scraping techniques and helped other developers learn the craft. I built custom data extraction tools for clients across different industries from e-commerce to marketing, recruiting, so I understood proxies, anti-bot systems, and data pipelines inside out.
Before SociaVault, I also built TokLeads, a database of 800,000+ TikTok creators with verified emails, which taught me a lot about collecting and structuring social media data at scale and how to keep large datasets clean and up to date. That project showed me there was real demand for accessible social media data.
I had never built a full SaaS platform with billing, API key management, usage tracking, documentation, and a proper API gateway before, though; that entire layer was new territory, and I had to learn it all while building.
Biggest lesson building SociaVault
I launched with pricing that was way off. My early credit packs worked out to roughly $30-50 per 1,000 API calls, while competitors in the space were charging $0.50-$1.50 per 1,000. I'd priced based on what I thought the data was worth, not what the market would actually pay. I lost a few early enterprise conversations because of it; one potential customer needed 75,000 API calls a month, and my pricing made it a non-starter compared to alternatives.
When I finally did the research, I restructured everything to credit packs starting at $29 for 6,000 calls, and added volume discounts for larger plans. Signups picked up almost immediately. The lesson was simple but expensive, price based on what people are already paying in your market, not what you think is fair. You can always raise prices later once you've earned trust and proven value, but overpricing early means people never even try your product.
I would have shipped docs and blog content from day one instead of waiting until the product was "ready." Every customer I've gotten came through search or content, not ads.
