I started my working life in the Information Technology field as a data center computer operator. Back in the days of huge 12-inch magnetic tapes and hard drives that measured capacity in kilobytes! Even then, I discovered that the orderliness and logic of computers were appealing to my nature. I transitioned to
database administration and taught myself COBOL and various other programming languages, including some rather obscure ones.
It was the latter that landed me a contract position as a software developer, and from there, I continued to teach myself more programming languages. In my free time, I started to dabble with web development, most specifically in PHP and MySQL, which I used to develop web applications to help me in my own world. Small things like vehicle maintenance systems, household
budgeting, a recipe
database, and so forth. It's a hobby for me!
