How WyDoin got started
I watched a video about real-life gamification on YouTube, where the guy was doing it in Google Sheets.
A friend of mine watched the same video and asked how I made a plug-in for After Effects, what AI I used for it. I said Gemini. He said he wanted to publish an app in the stores, and I said I could build it.
What is it now, I came up with it and redesigned it myself, Goal Trees, Networking, AI Plans Import. The first three releases were with gamification; then I dumped it.
I built the first version on Flutter, never coded before. The structure was 3 levels, goal, subgoals inside it, and tasks inside them. Networking I added on purpose because the social part always makes people invite their friends. UI I redesigned three times, obvious Flutter UI, then glassmorphism AI slop, then terminal, which was too niche and non-understandable. Every time I thought the design was the problem.
Growing WyDoin: what worked and what didn't
Worked, AI plans. At first, I set up plans into the app manually. Then I realized that AI can set up plans directly into WyDoin if I'm going to use a specific prompt. I integrated it into WyDoin, and right now, it's one of the best features.
Before that, I was writing plans by hand and setting them up into WyDoin; it took too much time. Now a 30-day plan gets built in a minute (with all your personal input data). And it pulls the second part with it. A user comes for a plan, then they want to find others with plans, look at what they do, and message them. That's already in the app.
Failed, Fancy terminal UI style. It's too niche and hard to understand. I redesigned it.
I made it because I wanted the app to look like a hacker interface - serious and cool, not like another habit tracker. It didn't last. Folks opened it and had no idea what it is and what to do there.
What WyDoin customers really think
There are no real users yet, so I'm gonna say, the main report from testers was, "I don't see any reason to use the app, UI is non-understandable."
So I decided to remove all unnecessary stuff. There are Planning & Networking left.
I removed gamification, skills, points for finishing tasks, and day efficiency. And I added DMs for the first pitch-up, so people can talk right inside the app. Before, it was only pinned social media, to connect there.
And of course, I rebuilt the UI and UX; now the app has a solid, understandable, convenient interface.
Then I realized that my website was promoting features that were removed a couple of months ago.
It was promoting XP, levels, terminal UI, and a marketplace. None of that exists anymore. I wrote that text myself back when it was still the plan and never checked it against what I actually shipped. So a guy could read the site, install the app, and get a different product. I rewrote the whole website.
What most people get wrong about Task Management & To-Do List Apps
Everybody thinks the key is motivation. That's why they try to make something up with gamification, points, and stuff. I did it personally and threw it away because it ain't a thing.
The problem is that folks don't know what to do next and they do it alone. And even I always struggle with that exact problem; I suffer when I have a million tasks to do and no system. No partner on a side is one of the biggest problems for me so far.
Look at what's out there. Notion and Todoist help you organize the work, but you're alone on it. Focusmate, Supporti, StickK connect you with a person next to you, but they don't care what you actually do; they don't plan the work. Nobody thinks about both things at once.
So people run two apps that never talk to each other. The plan sits in one place, the guy who is supposed to ask you about it sits in another. In the end, nobody asks.
My app solves THIS problem.
What's next for WyDoin
Release at App Store. Fill up the app network. So every niche in Networking will contain real active users and everybody can find a partner in that niche. App optimization.
Right now, if a guy opens up a partner search, he's going to find nobody, because there are no users yet. That's the weakest part of the product. Until the majority of niches have real people in them, the main feature doesn't work the way it should. And I keep improving the UX and onboarding.
WyDoin traction so far
+- 15 sign-ups (testers). Two of them are active.
Adam's background
Before all this, I worked in sales.
I was a video editor and had a video editing channel. Also, I made a plug-in for After Effects. I built it with Gemini; that was the first time I made something with AI and it actually worked. Everybody from my channel was really grateful for that useful plug-in because it was.
Apps I never built before WyDoin. Never published anything in the stores, and was thinking that it's lowkey impossible. Flutter I learned from zero right on this project. The first version I put together without really understanding what I was doing, and it was obvious in the result.
Biggest lesson building WyDoin
I built a gamification and didn't use it myself. UI was too niche, so nobody was understanding it.
It worked like this, tasks were tied to skills you created yourself. You finish a task and get one point into a skill. I was looking at it and knew I wouldn't use this myself. And I released it anyway.
Then I was fixing the wrong thing. Redesigned UI instead of removing what's not needed.
Removed all unnecessary features, redesign to a minimalistic understandable interface.
Now there is planning and networking left, and I use both of them myself every day. I don't add stuff I don't use anymore.
I would integrate AI features from the start because it's a hot thing right now. Understandable UI from the start. And I wouldn't build gamification that I didn't want to use myself.
