  Hi,

  Thanks for the question. ScraperBlock blocks by user-agent name, using a list of known AI training crawlers, SEO and data scrapers, and scripted clients. Examples are GPTBot, ClaudeBot, CCBot, Bytespider, SemrushBot, Scrapy and python-requests.

  How useful traffic stays safe

  Search engines: Googlebot, Bingbot, Yahoo Slurp and DuckDuckBot are not on the list, so SEO and indexing are unaffected. Blocking Google-Extended only opts out of Google’s AI training.
  Shoppers: real browsers don’t match the list, and logged-in users are exempt from rate limiting.
  AI search assistants: an “Allow AI search bots” setting lets ChatGPT-User, OAI-SearchBot and PerplexityBot through, so your store can still be cited in AI answers.
  Your own rules: you can add custom user-agents and turn protection off per page. Pro adds an IP allowlist.

  Price bots and disguised scrapers

  Every anonymous visitor is rate-limited per IP and user-agent (60 requests per minute free, 120 in Pro). A scraper faking a browser is still slowed down, and search engines stay well under the limit.
  Pro adds WooCommerce-specific rate limits on shop and product pages, a hidden honeypot link that only bots follow, and detection of headless or empty user-agents.

  Limits

  Matching is by user-agent only, with no IP or reverse-DNS verification, so a scraper using a fake browser user-agent isn’t caught by name. The rate limit and Pro’s honeypot still catch it.
  Link-preview bots such as Facebook and LinkedIn are on the list, so shared links may not show previews.
