Audio and MusicAudioRoute captures the audio playing on your computer and puts it straight into a DAW track or a file, on macOS and Windows.
It installs as a VST3, AU and AAX plug-in, a virtual input device, and a standalone menu-bar app. Drop the plug-in onto a track and record what your browser, video call, sampler or any other app is playing, in sync with your session. No aggregate device, no virtual cable and no second computer.
Capture everything the system is playing, or pick individual apps and balance their levels independently. Recording supports high sample rates up to 192 kHz at 32-bit float, and a finished take can be dragged straight from the plug-in into your project.
Used by mixing engineers, producers and broadcasters in more than 45 countries. One-time purchase with a 14-day trial, not a subscription.
AudioRoute can be found in Audio and Music categories.

How does AudioRoute handle apps that use exclusive audio modes or protected playback, where other tools may not be able to capture the sound?

There are 2 separate topics here:
1. Exclusive modeOn a Mac, it is not a problem. AudioRoute listens to each app through macOS's own per-app audio capture, which sits beside the playback path, not in it. We tested players that take exclusive (hog mode) access to an interface, and the capture keeps working, at full level. It also adds no latency to what you hear.
On Windows, it depends on which kind of exclusive mode the app uses. Most apps, including browsers, Spotify, Zoom and games, play through the shared Windows mixer, and AudioRoute captures them per app or all together.
An app that plays in WASAPI exclusive mode or straight to an ASIO driver skips that mixer completely. AudioRoute can't capture it, and neither can any other tool that listens to Windows' mixer. The fix is a setting in the player: switch it to shared mode, or to a non-ASIO output, while you record. More here: https://audio-route.com/guides/does-audioroute-need-asio-windows2. DRM
AudioRoute records what the system plays through its normal audio path. It does not break or get around copy protection, and where a service restricts capture, those rules still apply to you.Hope it helps.
